Project Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements and technical specifications into scalable, secure, and fully tested full-stack applications
• Develop detailed technical designs and programming specifications
• Write, review, and maintain clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices
• Build and enhance data-driven applications and backend services
• Design and execute unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure quality and reliability
• Design and implement modern, responsive frontend components using React
• Develop robust backend services and APIs using Spring Boot
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across development, testing, and production environments
• Support application deployment, data migration, and system integration activities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams through code reviews, design sessions, and Agile ceremonies
• Ensure all solutions meet security, performance, scalability, and accessibility standards (AODA compliance)
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and standards
• Provide technical support for implementation, system integration, data conversion, and migration activities
• Translate technical systems specifications into working, tested applications

• Write and/or generate code
• Compile data-driven programs
• Maintain and conduct unit tests
• Resolve and troubleshoot technical problems which arise during the use and operation of software packages

Qualifications & Requirements

REQUIRED

• Must be able to work 5 days onsite per week
• 10+ years’ experience in developing n-tier Enterprise applications
• Expertise in application design, latest design patterns, deployment and troubleshooting
• Expertise in JPA or Hibernate, and Spring Boot Framework
• Proficient in database design and SQL development, with solid expertise in PostgreSQL, PL/pgSQL, Azure Cosmos DB
• JavaScript / TypeScript frameworks such as React, Angular
• Experience gathering and documenting requirements from business stakeholders
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Experience in programming and systems analysis within enterprise application environments
• Strong ability to collaborate with IT professionals across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Experience in application design, modern design patterns, deployment, and troubleshooting
• Experience designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting applications
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java) and modern scripting languages (JavaScript/TypeScript)
• Experience with relational database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL) and SQL development
• Experience building and supporting data-driven applications
• Experience working with API-based and web applications (REST/HTTP protocols)
• Experience using query languages and data access tools
• Experience with structured methodologies (Agile/Waterfall) for design, development, implementation, and maintenance
• Ability to elicit, analyze, and document requirements from business stakeholders and subject matter experts
• Experience in application deployment and environment management
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving application and integration issues
• Ability to work with integration patterns and communication protocols
• Experience producing technical documentation and design artifacts

NICE TO HAVE

• Knowledge and experience with programming Internet-ready applications
• Knowledge and experience in rapid application development (RAD) methodologies
• Knowledge and understanding of Information Management principles, concepts, policies and practices
• Experience with middleware and gateways
• Experience reviewing, analyzing, and modifying product installation scripts including encoding, testing, debugging
• Ability to provide post-implementation support and resolve any post-implementation technical issues
• Experience conducting design walkthrough sessions with project team
• Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards
• Familiar with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)
• Ability to provide user and system documentation as required
• Experience building cloud-native, internet-facing applications
• Agile development experience - Scrum, User Stories, CI, and test automation etc.
• Experience with middleware, API gateways, or integration services
• Experience leading design walkthroughs and technical discussions
• Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and WCAG standard

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Backend Development (Java/ Spring Boot/ Spring/ Integration) - 30%

• 8–10+ years’ experience developing n-tier enterprise applications
• Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework (Core, MVC, Security, Data, Batch)
• Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs
• Demonstrated expertise in application architecture, design patterns (MVC, Security, integration patterns), and performance optimization
• Experience implementing and managing caching solutions using technologies such as Redis
• Experience integrating with enterprise systems and service integration platforms or integration hubs
• Proven ability to deliver secure, scalable, and production-ready backend solutions
• Strong experience with unit testing and integration testing

Frontend (React / Angular) - 20%

• Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React and/or Angular
• Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript (ES6+) for building web applications
• Experience developing responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces (AODA/WCAG awareness)
• Proven ability to implement component-based architecture and reusable UI components
• Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
• Understanding of frontend performance optimization, state management, and application scalability

Database & ORM - 15%

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL, Azure Cosmos DB
• Experience in schema design and normalization, query optimization and indexing and writing database functions (PL/pgSQL preferred)
• Hands-on experience with ORM frameworks, JPA, Hibernate and MyBatis
• Experience integrating ORM frameworks with backend services
• Experience supporting data-driven applications

Cloud Platform (Azure) - 20%

• Demonstrated experience with Azure services such as, Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL etc.
• Experience deploying and supporting cloud-native applications
• Understanding of scalability, monitoring, and cloud security

Test Automation & Quality Engineering - 10%

• Strong experience in test automation across unit, API, and end-to-end (E2E) testing
• Hands-on experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit 5 and Mockito
• Experience with frontend testing frameworks such as Jest
• Experience implementing end-to-end testing using tools such as Playwright or Katalon
• Experience with API testing automation and validation of RESTful services
• Experience applying Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) practices
• Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain automated test suites within CI/CD pipelines

Agile / Collaboration / Soft Skills - 5%

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Participation in, code reviews, design sessions
• Proven ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines.
