Project Overview
Under the ONE Access Program, design and build user-centered interfaces for web applications, blending UX design and front-end development from wireframes and prototypes to implemented interfaces using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript. Support ongoing design, enhancement, and upkeep of applications and web content, working closely with product, development, and business teams to deliver accessible, responsive, and standards-aligned user experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design intuitive, user‑centered interfaces for web‑based applications
- Translate UX concepts, wireframes, and prototypes into functioning front‑end code using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript
- Create and refine UX artefacts including wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes
- Support content updates and page maintenance using WordPress or similar CMS platforms
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle
- Ensure designs adhere to accessibility, usability, and web standards
- Conduct design iterations based on feedback, usability insights, and technical constraints
- Participate in Agile or waterfall delivery processes as part of application teams
- Develop reusable, responsive UI components using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and design assets using Adobe XD
- Update and maintain existing web application interfaces and content
Qualifications & Requirements
REQUIRED
- Must be able to work 5 days onsite per week
- 5+ years of experience
- Proven experience designing UX interfaces for web applications
- Strong hands-on experience translating designs into HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript
- Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe XD or similar wireframing/prototyping tools
- Experience supporting content updates and ongoing upkeep of web applications
- Strong understanding of responsive and accessible web design principles
- UX design experience using Adobe XD or similar wireframing tools
- Strong front-end development skills in HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript
- Experience working with WordPress or similar CMS platforms
- Experience maintaining and updating web application content and layouts
- Understanding of responsive, accessible, and user-centered design principles
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams
- Strong communication skills to explain design decisions and technical constraints
NICE TO HAVE
- Public sector experience
- Experience designing interfaces for public-facing or enterprise web applications
- Experience working in health, health-IT, or regulated environments
- Familiarity with design systems and reusable component libraries
- Experience collaborating closely with development teams in Agile environments
- Understanding of cross-browser compatibility and performance considerations
- Experience applying WCAG or accessibility best practices
- Strong visual design sensibility combined with technical problem-solving skills
EVALUATION CRITERIA
- UX design and front end development experience – Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces using wireframing/prototyping tools (e.g., Adobe XD) and implementing designs using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript - 25 points
- Design portfolio - 40 points
- Experience maintaining and updating web applications and content – Experience supporting content updates, UI enhancements, and upkeep of existing applications, including use of WordPress or similar CMS platforms - 20 points
- Experience / Knowledge of agile project management practices - 15 points
